Trip to Taiwan

I’m in Taiwan at the moment visiting relatives and I’m having a blast. The picture above is the East gate in Hsin Chu. It’s the last remaining gate that protected the city in years past. As with everytime I come back to Taiwan lots have changed and lots have remained the same. The sense of history here is just overwhelming but when juxtaposed with the modern hustle and bustle it’s like a weird frankenstein mish mash of old and new.  It’s a different world here. I noticed not many people actually own iPhones over here. I almost feel embarassed to break out my iPad to read or whatever while on the train. I’m actually writing this from a hotel lobby that has internet access. (it’s quiet here so i’m not drawing any weird stares).

Uncle has really been an awesome tourguide (no surprise since that’s his profession) The above is a picture of General Guan Yu who is a celebrated god. We visited this very famous temple and were lucky enough to be able to tour the museum of artifacts. This temple is actually privately owned as are the artifacts. I got to see some amazing items up close that would normally be under strict guard and lock if it were in the states.

Thats a sculpture made entirely of “Elephant bone” and there was a bed (real sized palacial bed) carved of jade. (A whole damn bed!)

Anyhow I’m in Fu Long right now hammering out this post. It’s been a rainy day. We were hoping to go rock climbing but I’m afraid we were in for a dissapointment. We went for a hike instead which was epic. I’m soaked to the core but I’ll be warming up soon.

I’m saving all my posts of food related stuff over at EatingInABox but I’ll keep all non related trip details here. I’ve already managed a post on the first days street food that my Uncle took us to sample.

Ok more later!

Test post with blogsy

So I got this new app called blogsy. Neat stuff. I’m posting this post via my iPad. It lets you connect to flickr picasa you tube and do cool drag and drop stuff. I wanted to be able to leave my lappy top at home for my up coming trip to Taiwan. Between this and the camera connection kit and my bluetooth foldable keyboard I think I’m set! Very exciting!

K enough play time.

Hello world!

I’ll leave the obligatory “Hello World!” first wordpress post.

For those of you that are returning to ironjack.com you’re probably wondering where everything went. For those of you that just wandered here please just bear with me or stop reading and come back when I’ve started getting this thing going (even better come visit me at EatinginaBox where I’m actively posting my cooking exploits.)

My site has been dying a slow death over the many years because I’ve been distracted at work and really pouring all my attention to my foodblog, but no more! I’ll be posting, pictures and random stuff now that I’ve managed to “wordpress-ize” my site. Gone are my horrible attempts at playing with photoshop! This will mainly be where I’ll post what’s going on in my life and any interesting “doo hickeys” that I’ve encountered. This also happens to be where I’ll be experimenting with wordpress and it’s features. So please expect stuff to show up and disappear over time.

k enough yammering post more later!
